2008 PGV: $16
The 2008 blend of our PGV (PINOT GRIS VIOGNIER) is 57% VIOGNIER and 43% PINOT GRIS. Viognier is the most widely planted white variety from the Rhone Valley of France. It is known for its orange and peach aromas and high viscosity when fully ripe. It perfectly complements Pinot Gris' delicate perfume, moderate body and crisp acidity. The appellation sources for the grapes are Horse Heaven Hills for Viognier and the Yakima Valley and Pasco area for Pinot Gris. The wine has aromas of tropical fruit, peach and orange; it is full-bodied, but crisp on the palate. Enjoy with chicken recipes, steamed mussels, clam linguini, and other seafood dishes. 2007 DR. WOLFE'S FAMILY RED: $16
Our 2007 version is a unique blend of PRIMITIVO (64%), CABERNET SAUVIGNON (21%), PETITE SIRAH (11%) and LEMBERGER (4%), all grown in Washington State. The Primitivo, Petite Sirah and Lemberger are all from the Zephyr Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. The Cabernet Sauvignon is from the Crawford Vineyard in the Yakima Valley. Grapes were harvested individually in early October, fermented in small open top fermenters and transferred to a mixture of new and once used American oak barrels immediately after pressing. Following 16 months barrel aging, the wine was bottled in March 2009 and released June 2009. Spicy, fruity and full-bodied, this wine complements a wide range of rich and hardy dishes and is meant for enjoyment now through 2015.
2007 LEMBERGER: $16
Our 2007 LEMBERGER is produced from 100% Zephyr Ridge Vineyard LEMBERGER grapes grown in the Horse Heaven Hills. Fruit was harvested at 25.1 Brix on October 7th and fermented to dryness on the skins in one-ton fermenters. The wine was aged in a mixture of new and seasoned American oak barrels for 13 months to give a hint of spice to complement Lemberger’s natural fruit. Cherry, raspberry, vanilla and black pepper combined with moderate acidity and full body make this wine enjoyable with a wide range of foods, including picnic fare, hors d’oeuvres, salmon, burgers and lasagna. 2008 BURGESS VINEYARD SYRAH: $20
Our 2008 BURGESS VINEYARD SYRAH is produced from 100% Burgess Vineyard fruit and is a stellar successor to the award winning 2007 vintage. Harvested at 23.3 Brix on October 9th, it was aged 14 months in American and French oak before bottling in December 2009. Inky dark color, blueberry and anise aromas complemented by oak spice with soft, rich tannins make this wine enjoyable now through 2017. Suggested food companions include cheeses, broiled lamb, Sisters’ Ham, spiced sausages and pastas with rich sauces. 149 cases produced and released March 2010. Alcohol 13.8%.
2007 ZEPHYR RIDGE PETITE SIRAH: $22.50
2007 is Thurston Wolfe’s sixth release of 100% Washington State PETITE SIRAH. Known as Durif in France, this variety was misidentified as a selection of Syrah when originally introduced into California. The vines were planted in 1998 at the Zephyr Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. Harvested on October 24 at 25.0 Brix, the grapes were fermented in one-ton stainless fermenters and transferred immediately on pressing to a mixture of new and one-year American oak for malo-lactic fermentation. After 18 months barrel aging, the wine was bottled in April 2009. The resulting wine has spice and dark berry and cherry aromas with intense color and a surprisingly smooth finish. 450 cases produced.
2006 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 'THE TEACHER': $22.50
Our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is dedicated to Stan Clarke, renowned Washington State viticulturist, teacher and mentor of students of all ages. His favorite wine was Cabernet Sauvignon. Please enjoy this wine anytime, but especially in memory of Stan on its 10-year anniversary in 2016. This Cabernet is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from three vineyards, Andrews (49%) and Destiny Ridge (46%) in the Horse Heaven Hills and Crawford (5%) in the Yakima Valley. Following aging in French, Hungarian and American oak for 21 months, the wine was bottled in July 2008 and released June 2009. With intense cherry, cassis, mocha and oak spice aromas and rich, full flavors, this wine can be enjoyed now or aged through 2018.
2008 HOWLING WOLFE ZINFANDEL: $18
Our 2008 HOWLING WOLFE ZINFANDEL is our 8th vintage from the Zephyr Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills of Washington State. Zephyr Ridge Vineyard is located near the town of Paterson overlooking the Columbia River. Located on a steep south facing slope, the fruit ripens to optimal quality even in cool years such as 2008. Harvested at 25.3 Brix on October 11th, the grapes were fermented in small open top fermenters until dry. Following pressing, the wine was aged in American and European oak for 13 months before bottling in late December 2009. This Zinfandel has the aromas of Raspberries and Strawberries complemented with oak spice and a rich full body. Enjoy now with prime rib, rack of lamb or port-glazed pork loin or age through 2017. 540 cases produced and released in February 2010.
2008 SWEET REBECCA (375 ml): $12.50
Our 2008 vintage of SWEET REBECCA is 100% ORANGE MUSCAT from the Lonesome Spring Vineyard near Benton City in the Yakima Valley. Harvested in late September at 24 Brix, the grapes were pressed, cold settled and racked to stainless steel barrels for fermentation. At 12 Brix, high proof brandy was added to raise the alcohol to 16% and stop fermentation. After cold stabilization and filtration, the wine was bottled in March 2009 and released in May 2009. The wine has bright aromatics of peach, tangerine and jasmine and the perfect balance of sugar and acidity to accompany apple, pear, and peach desserts. 16% alcohol and 10% residual sugar. Only 265 cases of 375ml bottles produced.
2007 JTW PORT: $20 (750 ml) $12.50 (375 ML)
Our 2007 JTW PORT is a blend of TOURIGA (39%) and SOUZAO (10%) from the Lonesome Springs Vineyard, PETITE SIRAH (20%) from the Zephyr Ridge Vineyard and CABERNET SAUVIGNON (25%) from the Crawford Vineyard. Touriga and Souzao are Portuguese Port varieties that produce aromatic wines with deep ruby color. Petite Sirah adds color and structure and Cabernet contributes bright fruit aromas to the blend. The final blend was prepared on September 2008 and bottled July 2009. Descriptors: Black cherry, boysenberry, chocolate, spice and black pepper. Enjoy with anything chocolate, Stilton cheese and Bartlett pears, or curled up next to a winter fire. This wine is 19% alcohol, 10% residual sugar.
2007 ZINFANDEL PORT: $15 (375 ml)
Thurston Wolfe on rare occasions produces a Zinfandel port when the fruit is of exceptional quality. The 2007 vintage of ZINFANDEL PORT is 90% ZINFANDEL from the Stone Tree Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope blended with smaller amounts of TOURIGA, SOUZAO, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, and PETITE SIRAH from the Yakima Valley and Horse Heaven Hills. Harvested in early September at 27 Brix, the grapes were fermented in a small open-top fermenter. At 11 Brix, grape brandy was added and the wine was allowed to macerate on skins eight days before pressing to maximize color and flavor extraction. After barrel aging 18 months, the wine was bottled in May 2009 and released in August. Descriptors: Bramble, black pepper, plum, chocolate and spice. Enjoy with anything chocolate, Marion Berry pie, or by itself. This wine is 19% alcohol, 8% residual sugar. Only 110 cases of 375ml bottles produced and sold exclusively from the winery and very select retail accounts.
2005 JTW RESERVE PORT: $16 (375 ml)
Our 2005 JTW RESERVE PORT is a selection of our best lots of 2005 port held back for additional barrel and bottle ageing. A blend of 38% Zephyr Ridge Petite Sirah, 33% Lonesome Spring Touriga, 26% Crawford Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Lonesome Spring Souzao, it was barrel aged for 23 months in oak and then bottle aged an additional 24 months before release in November 2009. Featuring a deep garnet color, the aroma is chocolate, plum, black cherry, coffee and spice, and on the palate, it is like biting into a rich, ripe plum covered with Godiva chocolate. Cork finished in 375ml bottles, enjoy this wine now and through 2018. 143 - 4.5 liter cases produced. Available only at the winery and select retail outlets.
2007 PRIMITIVO: $27.50
Our 2007 ZEPHYR RIDGE PRIMITIVO is our second varietal bottling of the Italian clone of ZINFANDEL grown in the Puglia region of southeastern Italy. This variety was introduced into Italy from the former country of Yugoslavia about the same time it was introduced into California in the mid 1800's. Thurston Wolfe was the first winery to plant the variety in Washington State in 1997 at the Zephyr Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. Grapes were harvested on September 29th at 25.5 Brix and fermented to dryness in open top fermenters. After ageing in 100% new American oak for 14 months, it was bottled February 2009 and released May 2009. Big, bold and powerful, this wine compliments rich and spicy foods. Only 100 cases produced and sold exclusively at the tasting room and select retail accounts.
2007 TEMPRANILLO: $27.50
Our 2007 TEMPRANILLO is the second vintage of the best known of the Spanish red varieties grown throughout the Rioja region of northern Spain. This release is a blend of TEMPRENILLO grapes (86%) from Destiny Ridge vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills and SYRAH grapes (14%) from Thurston Wolfe's estate vineyard in the Yakima Valley. Both varieties were picked on October 1st at 25.6 Brix and cofermented in a small open top fermenter. After pressing, it was immediately transferred to barrels for malo-lactic fermentation. Following aging for 15 months in 50% new American oak, it was bottled in February 2009 and released May 2009. This variety is known for its delicate spicy aroma and soft tannins that are complimented by a moderate amount of oak. Only 100 cases produced and sold exclusively at the winery.
